Chapter 6
Bai Xunyin never expected Yu Luoyin to help her.
Feeling flustered, she bit her lip, wanting to express her gratitude, but her phone was in the classroom. She could only mouth the words "thank you."
Yu Luoyin, handling the task with ease, casually carried the chair with one hand. Seeing her mouthing her thanks, he asked, "Do you really want to thank me?"
Bai Xunyin nodded vigorously.
"Then hold the umbrella properly and stop tilting it toward me," Yu Luoyin chuckled, "It blocks my view."
The girl didn't understand the difference between holding an umbrella for him and sharing an umbrella. Half of her body was exposed to the rain—why would a guy like him need to be so well-covered?
Bai Xunyin's slender neck turned a shade of red. She smiled lightly but didn't move the umbrella, stubbornly keeping it over Yu Luoyin's head.
Yu Luoyin had no choice but to quicken his pace to the senior classroom.
Helping Bai Xunyin move the chair into the classroom caused quite a stir. Many students from Class 3, who had already moved their things and were resting, were shocked to see Yu Luoyin in their classroom, especially helping Bai Xunyin.
Many classmates instinctively looked at Sheng Churou, who was elegantly touching up her makeup by the window—her expression was terribly sour, unable to be concealed by makeup.
"You stay put." Yu Luoyin didn't look at anyone else, only speaking to Bai Xunyin before turning to leave.
The girl watched his tall figure leave in a daze.
Yu Luoyin had taken her umbrella, making it clear he didn't want her to go back out. Was he going to... help her move her desk?
Bai Xunyin stood still, watching the direction he left, her ponytail dripping water down her slender neck, sending a chill through her.
"Xunyin," Sheng Churou, having held back for a while, couldn't help but come over and ask, "Why did Yu Luoyin help you move things?"
Her question was what everyone else was curious about too, and many eyes turned toward them.
Sheng Churou's intense stare was the most aggressive.
Bai Xunyin frowned slightly, thinking she didn't know either. But saying that wouldn't satisfy Sheng Churou.
"Say something," Sheng Churou, losing patience, pushed Bai Xunyin, "How do you know Yu Luoyin?!"
Almost all the girls in the grade knew she was pursuing Yu Luoyin. Generally, no girl dared to get close to him. So why would he help Bai Xunyin, a mute?
A strong sense of unease gripped Sheng Churou's heart, her palms damp with either rain or sweat.
Bai Xunyin was pushed against the wall, her slender body slumping softly, a frown crossing her face with a trace of disgust.
She lifted her long eyelashes to look at Sheng Churou—her eyes devoid of any emotion, just calmly staring, causing Sheng Churou to feel a chill down her spine.
"Oh, I forgot, you can't even speak," Sheng Churou finally said, trying to regain her composure with a disdainful laugh.
She looked at Bai Xunyin contemptuously, her voice low, "A mute, trying to compete with me?"
Bai Xunyin narrowed her eyes at Sheng Churou, noticing the unease in her eyes. She thought she was hiding it well, but it was plainly visible—Sheng Churou was scared.
And Bai Xunyin had no intention of competing with her for anything.
This meaningless conversation was quite boring.
Lowering her gaze, Bai Xunyin sidestepped Sheng Churou and returned to her seat.
She sat on the chair Yu Luoyin had just helped her move. Why had he helped her?
"Yu Luoyin is a good person; seeing a girl moving things by herself, of course he'd help," Sheng Churou, sweeping her gaze across the curious classmates, said loudly as if talking to herself, "Don't misunderstand anything, lest someone gets carried away."
It was a declaration of territory, but everyone in the class knew Sheng Churou couldn't catch Yu Luoyin.
Who was she declaring her territory to? It was laughable.
But some people always fawned over students like Sheng Churou, and some watched Bai Xunyin with interest.
The girl wrung out her jacket, her expression cold and indifferent, as if Sheng Churou's words had nothing to do with her.
Bai Xunyin had no interest in watching a clown perform, even if the clown was right in front of her.
In some ways, she was quite indifferent.
After a while, Yu Luoyin returned, to the delight of the onlookers, helping Bai Xunyin move her desk. Sheng Churou, still standing by Bai Xunyin, lit up and hurried over to chat—
"Yu Luoyin, your clothes are wet. I have a hairdryer, let me dry them for you."
She was the only one who brought a hairdryer and a full set of makeup to school.
Yu Luoyin, Bai Xunyin, and Sheng Churou formed a bizarre triangle, making the scene both strange and intriguing.
People love gossip; it's human nature.
But the 'male protagonist' didn't leave much room for speculation.
Yu Luoyin ignored both Sheng Churou and Bai Xunyin.
As Sheng Churou claimed, he seemed to be just casually helping out. Yu Luoyin placed the desk in front of Bai Xunyin, his wet hair dripping, and then left without a word.
Water droplets fell onto Bai Xunyin's desk from his hair.
She looked down, hearing Sheng Churou's audible sigh of relief.
For the first time, Sheng Churou was happy because of Yu Luoyin's indifference.
She even hummed joyfully, swaying back to her seat.
...
......Silence lingered for a few seconds. White Xunyin let her hair down to air dry, then retrieved another school uniform from the drawer of her desk.
As she spread out the clothes, a piece of paper floated down and landed on the ground. White Xunyin distinctly remembered that there was no such note in her desk.
She hesitated for a moment, then bent down quickly to pick up the mysteriously appeared paper from the ground.
Written in bold black strokes that nearly tore through the paper, the handwriting clearly belonged to a boy: [Remember to repay me.]
Yu Luoyin never did anything without expecting something in return.
White Xunyin stared at the note for a while, her mind swirling in confusion. Eventually, she gently folded the paper.
"Summer vacation starts tomorrow." As classmates finished moving their desks, Sheng Langli took the stage and began speaking about the usual advice: "Stay focused on your studies, attend extra classes, don't just go out to play during the break. Next semester, you'll be in senior year, and after enduring this year, there will be plenty of time for fun..."
White Xunyin listened absentmindedly. Her phone vibrated on her knee. It was a message from Amo.
[Hey, are your desks all moved? It's drizzling again in Lin Lan.]
White Xunyin glanced out the window subconsciously. The rain that had just been intense had now reduced to a gentle drizzle.
Almost as if it was deliberately contrary to the students, once the desks were moved, the rain had stopped.
She could even faintly see a rainbow in the sky. White Xunyin suddenly felt a sense of clarity and peace. She lowered her head to reply to Amo's message—
[Hey, are your desks all moved? It's drizzling again in Lin Lan.]
Bai Xunyin glanced out the window subconsciously. The rain that had just been intense had now reduced to a gentle drizzle.
It almost seemed like it was intentionally contrary to the students; once the desks were moved, the rain stopped and even a faint rainbow appeared in the sky. Bai Xunyin suddenly felt a sense of clarity and peace. She bowed her head to reply to Amo's message—
[Amo, I've met someone very special.]
"Yu Ge, here's your towel."
When Yu Luoyin returned to the classroom, a towel flew towards him.
He caught it and dried his hair, hearing Li Yuan's lively voice nearby, "Yu Ge, did you really go help that little mute girl move her desk?"
"Otherwise?" This question was quite creative. Yu Luoyin chuckled, his black eyes under his tousled hair fixed on him, "Did I go out to play in the rain?"
"No, Yu Ge, you're really creative in pursuing someone." Lu Ye couldn't help but mock, recalling the scenes he had just witnessed, "Why didn't you go earlier to help her move the desk? Did you have to wait until the girl got drenched in the rain?"
They had all moved their things earlier and were planning to help out in the old teaching building.
Driven by the 'pursue Bai Xunyin' bet, the other three were eager to push Yu Luoyin towards Class 3. He didn't refuse, just smiled and followed along.
As they arrived, he stood in the shadows, calmly watching Bai Xunyin standing alone.
The young girl had no one to help her, with desks and chairs piled around her, looking extremely lonely.
And this self-proclaimed 'pursuer' watched as the girl struggled alone, eventually moving her things in the rain before leisurely going to help.
Lu Ye couldn't help but want to kick Yu Luoyin, who remained calm and composed.
Bai Xunyin looked delicate and frail, seemingly incapable of moving desks and chairs. If Yu Luoyin hadn't acted, Lu Ye would have stepped in to help.
"It's because of people like you that you can't catch anyone." Yu Luoyin listened to Lu Ye's complaint, smiling indifferently.
Lu Ye didn't understand. He went directly to help, which was far from the 'romance' of two people caught in the rain. Just earlier, Bai Xunyin had helped him hold the umbrella, making the girl's ears blush.
It was especially evident on her fair, translucent skin.
"You're willing to help someone move desks in the rain..." Zhou Xin said, pushing his glasses up and looking thoughtfully at Yu Luoyin, "Yu Ge, are you doing this because of the bet, or do you actually like her a bit?"
Li Yuan and Lu Ye looked somewhat surprised at Zhou Xin's words, their emotions clearly visible—how could Yu Luoyin possibly like that little mute girl?
Yu Luoyin chuckled under his breath as he dried his hair with the towel, his voice muffled, "What do you think?"
After a moment of silence, Zhou Xin honestly replied, "Actually, that little mute girl is so beautiful. It's normal to develop feelings."
"Indeed." Yu Luoyin tossed the towel onto the table. Beneath his slightly damp, fluffy short hair, his face was clear and noble.
Though their eyes carried mischievous and teasing tones, he added with a mix of assertion and deflection, "But I'm doing this because of the bet."
